NEWS (also seen as News and NewS) is a Johnny's Entertainment group composed of six members (formerly nine). NEWS stands for the four compass directions: North, East, West and South.

The original nine members of NEWS were handpicked from the larger group of Johnny's Jr. and several smaller groups in September of 2003. Their first single, NEWS Nippon, which was released in 2003, was only available in limited edition at Seven Eleven stores. At the time, the unit was only formed to promote the women's volley ball tournament, hence why their single NEWS Nippon was not their official debut single, but because of the popularity of the unit, they had another single released on May 2004. This single Kibou ~Yell~, became their official debut single and debuted at number 1 on the Oricon charts and also finished the year in the 13th position. The member count at the time of their official debut was at 8, with Moriuchi Takahiro leaving the unit and Johnny's Entertainment entirely in December 2003. He is currently working with AMUSE as part of the band ONE OK ROCK.

The unit highlights the connection between Kanto and Kansai Johnny's with two members, Nishikido Ryo and Uchi Hiroki, being Kansai Juniors. Even though the boys debuted with NEWS, they did have a second debut with their Kansai unit Kanjani 8 later that year. Since both boys frequently moved between the two units, NEWS was often featured with only the 6 kanto members. In 2005, the unit did a collaboration with KAT-TUN and Junior units in the SUMMARY of Johnny's World. That year also marked their first member loss since December 2003. Uchi Hiroki, 19 at the time, was caught drinking in public while underage and was suspended from the agency.

In early 2006 Kusano Hironori, 17 at the time, was also accused of drinking but when questioned about it, he denied the accusation but still decided to withdraw out of his own accord. For a short term NEWS performed with only six members and they released the single Sayaendou / Hadashi no Cinderella Boy. However in May 2006, the group was temporarily suspended from further group activities, so that they could reflect on the misdeeds done by some of its members. The group was expected to return in 2007 with all 8 members. [1] During the time of their suspension, the members each had their own activities; the duo Tegomass was created with Tegoshi and Masuda, while Yamashita performed alongside Golf and Mike in the unit GYM for the womens volleyball tournament 2006.

On December 30th, 2006 it was announced that NEWS would be returning as a 6 member group, and would be appearing on Johnny's Countdown 2006-2007. In January 2007, it was announced that Uchi Hiroki and Kusano Hironori would be returning as 'trainees'. According to fans and websites, the rank 'trainee' is lower than the position of a junior. After almost a year long hiatus, NEWS released a single, Hoshi wo Mezashite, as the theme song for the Japanese release of Happy Feet in which Tegoshi Yuya was the voice of the main character, 'Mumble'. Later that year, it was announced that Uchi and Kusano would be appearing alongside M.A.D. and Chinen Yuuri in Shounentai's musical PLAYZONE 2007. Handwritten letters were sent to their fans announcing their return to the stage. Members of Shounentai also said in a message on the official website for the play that they hoped both boys would be able to leave the trainee title in the end of September, when the play ends.

It was stated at the end of PLAYZONE that the current schedule for the boys were empty and that they did not know what the upcoming months had in store for the boys. However, Uchi Hiroki appeared in Kanjani8's latest concert where the Kanjani members welcomed Hiroki back as a member of their unit and mentioned that now their group was complete.

In January 2008, it was reported that Uchi Hiroki and Kusano Hironori had graduated from their trainee status. It is uncertain whether they will be returning to NEWS, but in the meantime they will pursue solo activities. As for Uchi, it is also uncertain whether he will return to Kanjani8. He will star in a new dorama called Isshun no Kaze ni Nare, also starring Nishikido Ryo.

Currently, NEWS is embarking on a concert tour named "NEWS CONCERT TOUR pacific 2007-2008". They will be having their first live concert in Tokyo Dome in January 2008.

NEWS (ニュース Nyūsu^?) is a Japanese pop group from Johnny & Associates, which also produced groups such as SMAP, Tokio, V6, KinKi Kids, Arashi, KAT-TUN and Tackey & Tsubasa.

History

2003 – 2004: Formation and debut

NewS was formed on September 2003 and consisted of nine members from different Johnny's Jr. groups. The name 'NewS' was derived from the four global directions North, East, West and South^[1] and Tomohisa Yamashita was chosen as the leader of the group. On November 7, 2003, their first single was released, NewS Nippon. It was a limited release, available only at 7-Eleven stores (corresponding to the release date of Nov 7) as the 2003 Volleyball Championship's official song.
A month later in December, member Takahiro Moriuchi left Johnny's Entertainment, thus resulting in an eight member group.
On May 12, 2004, NEWS released their official debut single, Kibou ~Yell~, changing the usual styling of their name from 'NewS' to 'NEWS'^[2], the single was ranked #1 on the Oricon Charts. The success of this single lead to the release of another single, Akaku Moyuru Taiyou, just three months later.

2005 – 2006: Rise to popularity and scandals

Following their success in 2004, 2005 proved to be a fruitful year as NEWS released another two singles and their first album, touch.
However, just when NEWS seemed to be one of the most popular groups in Japan, on July 16, 2005, member Hiroki Uchi got himself involved in a case of underaged drinking and was suspended by his agency^[2]^[3], leaving a seven member NEWS.
On January 31, 2006, Hironori Kusano of the group was accused of another incident of underaged drinking and became the second NEWS member to be suspended.^[2]^[3]

May 2006: NEWS on hiatus

Releasing their 6th single on 15 March 2006, it was announced that NEWS was to be put on hiatus due to the temporary suspension of two of their members. NEWS held a 'NEWS Spring Tour 2006' before stopping their activities officially on 1 May 2006.^[2]
Members who were not related to the scandals were allowed to carry on with their solo activities, but no group activities would be carried on during this period until further notice.

The return of NEWS

NEWS' return was announced on December 30, 2006, but as a 6 member group. Hiroki Uchi and Hironori Kusano also return but in the demoted position of "trainees". On January 1, 2007, NEWS made their first ever performance after their return in the Johnny's Concert Countdown 2007.
March 21, 2007, NEWS's first single after their hiatus, Hoshi wo Mezashite, ranked #1 on the Oricon charts and became their second highest single after Kibou ~Yell~.
Their single was followed by a two-month concert tour around the nation. A NEWS DVD, Never Ending Wonderful Story, was released on 8 August 2007 featuring the highlights of the tour. A two-day NEWS concert in Taipei was proposed on the 6 October and the 7 October^[4]. Unfortunately an unexpected typhoon striking the Taiwanese capital city on the concert's first day resulted in a postponement of the first concert event. Instead, two concerts were held on the second day^[5].

NEWS simultaneously released their 7th single and 2nd album on November 7^[6]; both releases reached the top of the Oricon charts, with their single "weeeek" selling 263,000 copies and their album "pacific" selling 196,000 copies.

This was the 10th time in Oricon history in which an artist reached #1 on both the single and the album charts, with the last occurrence achieved by KAT-TUN in April 2006. Other artists whom had accomplished such include SMAP, KinKi Kids, Masaharu Fukuyama, Ayumi Hamasaki, WANDS, as well as Seiko Matsuda^[7]. Those two releases also extended NEWS' streak of chart-toppers — thus far, all seven of their singles and both of their albums had became #1 on the chart rankings.

2008 – present

NEWS will be on their nation-wide tour, NEWS CONCERT TOUR Pacific 2007-2008, from December 15th, 2007 to January 27th, 2008. As a special part of the tour, NEWS performed for the first time in Tokyo Dome^[8]. This is considered a great accomplishment because other Johnny's Entertainment groups that debuted after NEWS, such as KAT-TUN, have already performed in Tokyo Dome — Japan's most famous stadium. On January 10th, 2008, NEWS announced their 9th single, "Taiyou no Namida", during the second Tokyo Dome performance. The single will be the official theme song for Yamashita Tomohisa's 2008 movie, Kurosagi.

Woke up bout 6.30am, solat + mandi + gosok baju + sarapan then tunggu atuk sampai nek kete mewah [bestnye!~] bout 7.45am ++ depan umah.

8.15am sampai kat destinasi yg dituju~ <---ayat poyo huhu..
Wait for him bout 15min then x lame pastu muncul tetibe ngan kete kancilnye suh aku mandu..
So mandu le kat highway..borak2 sket, tanye tu tanye ni..mane2 yg xpaham lg coz takut je..coz dak Im fail jalanraya dengar kate..so takut gak la..

Smooth!~ thats all i can say, xdengar dia bebel, hehe..hapal nak lalu jalan mane tapi pak cik kate its ok, slow2..jgn gelojoh..zzz..tapi part best die kate ade perubahan..mmg la, da slalu bawak kot.. -_-

8.45am, tetibe dia panggil lagi skali..suh masuk kete ngan chinese gal..aku dok blakang, tanye dia nak gi mane..his answer? ----> tanjung.. [Huh?? tanjung??!] pastu die kate balek umah la..
Uik awal gile balek..slalunye nak dekat kul 4.30pm br balek..ni x sampai kul 9am lagi..wahahaha

9.30am tengok cite kamikazegirls kat laptop adekku..pasal ade sorg gal ni suke sgt ngan fesyen lolita and sorg gal lagi minah motor..so the ending was kinda funny..watch it then u will noe..[malas nak cite sbnrnye].

12.13am here am i, writing this bullshyt..haha. Actually juz finish watch the jdodrama kamikaze girls..hehe

T__T penat and sejuk giler ari nie..ni skang tgh selubung ngan selimut >.< sejukkkk
Tapi pelek btul coz yg len kate panas je..nk kate aku deman, x pulak..huhu biau je laa
Ok, tadi kan, me, mum n rehan go for satay! wuhoo! best2 <---asek2 makan satay je tiap2 kali balek..hehe [x bosan ke?huhu] ntah le, thats me i guess -_- nvr bored doin same thing..LOL!

Kul 6.30am da bangun tapi tido balek..huhu jahat gak la aku coz x solat lagi time tu..sedau2 dah kul 6.55am..ape lg pecut gi amek wuduk trus solat..then gosok baju br gi mandi <---anak dara pemalas..wahahaha

Gi claz cik Mes, langsung 1 bende pon x masuk otak aku..hehe, korek2 bon punye beg skali jumpe komik..pe lagi? bace le sementara die xde kan? huhu..suddenly tadaa!~bon dtg dok kate "Oii selongkar beg aku eh?!" aku gelak je..wakaka, lantak pi la..huhu so 1 hour period, i was syiokk read the comic, at the same time dok perati la sekeliling..takut gak kalo kantoi ngan lecturer time tgh bace komik..huhu

Then lepas tu time sape ek? hah! time ncek Razak..but dia x masuk coz ISL, so wat keje sendiri je laa..huhu..pastu cik Yati lak..blaja ktbm lagu negaraku..lawak giler aku nengok ama dok gelak sakan..tapi mmg lawak gak la..simple giler ktbm rupenye..haha

Bencinye ade claz 2.30pm! coz nak balek le..kang xde tiket naye je..T__T tapi aku da selamat pon sampai kat umah skang and tgh dok naip nih..hehe..

Hehe..Lawak Giler Ari Nie!

Wuhoo!~ bangun kul 6.30am then trus solat + mandi + siap2 + sarapan and then..tunggu pakcik kete 2 sampai~~

Alamak! kete kancil ke? adoii..berempit laa nampaknye..smlm bukan men bangga nek kete kia, huhu..tu la jgn bangga sgt ek..kan dah kene..haha

Pelek betul sbb dak Mar xde dlm kete..pakcik tak angkat ke? so aku pon trus laa msg dak Mar, Mar pon reply katenye tue laa..tunggu lame x sampai2 lagi. Rupenye pakcik kate nnt atok amek dia kul 9am, so aku pon rilex je la..

Sampai je kat sana, dia tus suh aku bawak, ok la aku pon dok la sit depan..jeng3, dengan bergayanya aku bawak..smooth jugak la aku bawak hari nih..hehe xkene marah..wuhoo!~ best2!..smlm truk kene so take note ape yg dia cakap..then abes dlm kul 8 lebey...tgk Mar x sampai2 lg..aku pon tengok je la tv..cite ape ek time tu..haa pingu + spongebob, gelak aku dibuatnye and at last nampak pon dak Mar kul 9 lebey..

Kitorg pon tungu lame gak la sampai kul 11 lebey, pakcik 2 x nampak2 batang idungnye..so kitorg pon cadang nk gi kantin sbelah, nak makan..kelaparan, huhu..ngap2 punye ngap br le nampak dia..br je nak duduk kat tempat menunggu dia panggil aku suh duk kat pondok tengah bukit..aku pon follow la dia...uihh panas giler coz wear all black today +__+ ...tau2 je la panas cam rase melecur aku dibuatnye...tengok je la kete2 nih..then suddenly jumpe akak cute 2 lagi..woah! pro giler akak nih..bagus2, akak tu pon ajar + ingatkan aku nak tarik stereng kete bape2, bla bla..tabik laa kak!

Suddenly nampak dak Mar tengah naik bukit..huhu lawak minah nih coz mati enjin hehe. Sorry Mar! haha

Pakcik tu trus turun kete panggil aku naik...mak aii! aku kene naik ke? so aku pon bawak le..turun bukit + parking skali..suddenly dia kuar kete suh aku bawak sendiri..uihh??!! biar btul?! aku pon bawak le..huhu ok gak la bawak tadi...ade silap sket je..

So as conclusion, best gak la tadi..hehe everything under control~! haha
ok sampai sini post ari nih coz jap lagi nak kene balek kl..tiket kul 3.30pm, so daa!~ nak prepare laa..hehe

Yep sperti yg tertera di atas! "SAY NO TO DOTA"...dota ni m'yebabkan laptop ku jadik slow giler..tapi cian lak kat adek aku nak men dota coz com die spoil cket...salah aku gak huhu...nak wat camne ek..adehh..salah satu sebab why i must bring my laptop home coz for my bro...suh dia lekat kat umah ek?haha..ye la dari baba dok bebel kat ko, better ko men game ye x? haha

Tapi aku tetap sokong pada kempen "SAY NO TO DOTA!"

Ok hear diz, tadi bukan men lame nunggu giliran aku bile laa pakcik kete 2 nk suh aku drive..
Tunggu dr kul 8.15am sampai 11.25am then suddenly name pon dipanggil~
pastu suh tunggu kat kete.
So tunggu je la lagi..then dia suh kuar gi kat jalan raye..so ok la, ikut je la dia, so aku bawak la kat highway...tapikan part yg x best 2 time kat simpang..
Ok i noe its my fault..yeah 100% my fault sbb x tengok kanan sblm masuk kiri..mmg bahaye laa tapi rilex laa kete jauh lagi...satu tumbukan yg sebesau buah epal kene kat kaki aku sbb x tekan cluth....SAKIT GILER!! aku trus terdiam, senyap je..dia lak truskan membebel..aku dah malas nk bersuara coz tahan sakit...berdenyut kaki aku dibuatnye..
Then, yg lame wat la cam biase...
Tadi jumpa Mar, dia dah abes pra-test ari ni, aku tau aku patot abes same time as her but hehe tau2 je laaa...MALAS! plus fobia le nk bawak motor...
Then, tukar no ngan dia~~patotnye tukar no awal2 kan? haha

Hehe, ni nk cite sket nih..
Tadi, lepas abes drive...pakcik kete suh aku fotostat ic and lisence so aku pon pegi laa~~and then duduk la kat ruang menunggu..ade sorg mamat nih, agak ensem gak la dimate aku asek la dok ke hulu ke hilir depan aku...aku xmo la prasan lebey so aku wat dono je laa...makin aku wat dono makin dia suka nau benti berjalan and berdiri bertentang aku..so i was like aii dia ni nk ape sbnrnye...aku ade wat salah ke? pelek2...

Dr sok sorg2 aku pon cari laa dak Mar dekat2 situ kalo2 die ade~~then tada!~jumpe pon! so i go there, sit beside her then ketupat laa ape lg..haha
Ajak dia lunch, dia pon ok je coz dr tadi x makan ape...makan2 punye makan...tetibe mamat tu muncul lg! adoii...pastu wat saje je benti depan aku [igt aku x tau ka]...aku masih lg rase prasaan aku je kot..so aku pon makan ngan slumber giler laa..haha then tetibe dia dok meja sblh aku btul2 dekat je krusi die ngan aku..borak2 ngan geng dia..ntah ape dia cite kat member dia, malas nk tinge kuali hehe...tapi sempat pandang dia [comel gak dia nih, ade lesung pipit haha] tapi as always buat bodo je haha..so abes makan, kitorg trus blah cepat2, then suddenly Atuk panggil nk hantar balek...babai jejake ensem~! haha wuhoo kitorg naik kete mewah! [lupe name ape]
best btulkan? org len takde pon dpt layanan 1st class cam kitorg, tanye budak len sume jawab naik kete kancil bile balek..tapi kitorg lak? perghh best kan? thanks Atuk! You're the best Atuk!

Sempat aku korek2 poket kete Atuk! hehe jumpe mastika...kate kat Atuk, "Tok, pinjam bace mastika ek?hehe". Atuk gelak je, "Bace la nak oii" haha best betul Atuk ni kan?

Yeah, juz cr8 it todae..well coz its so bored here..nth 2 do..
around 7.30am later, uncle driver will come take me away~ woah! malas giler nk gi T___T but cant help~ haizz

Around 5pm juz now, br balek dr kl..penat x hilang lg~ sbb lepas tu trus gi tesco shopping..makan kfc coz malas nk gi makan kat food court~leceh haha...
plus gi beli brg2 ntok asgmt akan dtg
- kertas A4 [coz dah abes <--x caye dah abes]
- kertas kajang [awat name kertas ni kajang ek, xde name len ke? made in kajang ke?]
- liquid paper [coz totally xleh pakai yg lame-kering~haha]
- stepler [xtau mane gi ntah stepler aku dulu 2~]
- ntah mende2 len yg aku bli~lupe
